Julia Stiles John Moore's remake of Richard Donner's unsettling 1976 horror classic increases the quality of production values, yet stays very true to the original. Live Schreiber (EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED) plays Robert Thorn, a wealthy American official living in Rome, whose wife, Kate (Julia Stiles, MONA LISA SMILE), has just lost her first child. At the behest of a strange priest, Robert substitutes an orphaned child for his own without Kate's knowledge, and soon the small family is living an idyllic existence on a lavish estate in England. But when the child, Damian (Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick), turns five years old, strange things begin to happen, beginning with a nanny's public and very grisly suicide at the boy's lavish birthday party. John Hargreaves A haunting, ecologically conscious horror film from 1970s Australia, this unforgettable curio will stick with audiences long after viewing. Marcia (Briony Behets) and Peter (John Hargreaves) are a young couple whose marriage is on the rocks. They set out for a relaxing weekend of camping, settling in on an isolated beach where they hope to repair their relationship. It soon becomes apparent, however, that the pair has some unpleasant tendencies, which are manifest in their complete disregard for the environment. After hitting a kangaroo with their car, they leave it for dead, and everywhere they go, they leave a trail of refuse in their wake. Soon, the animals observing this behavior decide that they are not going to take it anymore, and they lash back at Peter and Marcia with a brutal vengeance. Atmospheric and quirky, this creepy gem of a movie delivers a message along with its terror. |

Director: James Isaac; Release Date: November 27, 2007 Though a statement at the opening of the film explains that the creatures of the title are, in Native American lore, people who have the ability to transform into various animals, SKINWALKERS focuses on two warring factions of werewolves. One is a family concentrated on protecting Timothy (Matthew Knight), a boy about to turn 13 who is the offspring of mortal Rachel (Rhona Mitra) and a Skinwalker. Timothy's family, led by kindly Uncle Jonas (Elias Koteas), chooses to avoid slaughtering innocents during full moons by restraining themselves in straps in the back of a beaten traveling camper. Their rival clan, captained by Varek (Jason Behr), lives with a leather-clad biker gang, riding from town to town and reveling in their bloodlust. When the clock strikes midnight on Timothy's birthday, he will be able to (in terms not explicitly spelled out) end the bloody reign of the Skinwalkers--but not if Varek and his gang can catch and kill Timothy before he officially becomes a teenager.
